Bloomfield NARFE to meet
The February meeting of the Bloomfield Chapter 847 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) has been rescheduled for Feb. 23 at 11:30 a.m. at Stoll’s Restaurant at Linton. The meal will be followed by the business meeting at 12:30 p.m.

CGCMA Announces Lenten Season Schedule
The pastors of the churches which comprise the Central Greene County Ministerial Association in Bloomfield have charted the course for the upcoming Lenten season. Scheduled events include the following: today Ash Wednesday at First Christian 7 p.m.; Saturday — Lenten Breakfast at First Presbyterian 8 a.m.; Feb. 27 — Lenten Breakfast at First Baptist 8 a.m.; March 6 — Lenten Breakfast at First Christian 8 a.m.; March 13 — Lenten Breakfast Holy Name 8 a.m.; March 20 — Lenten Breakfast at Faith Christian 8 a.m.; March 27 — Lenten Breakfast at Mineral UMC 8 a.m. The Lenten Breakfasts all begin at 8 a.m. and conclude by 9 a.m. They feature a delightful meal, singing, prayer, and a Lenten drama, all helping to prepare God’s people in Bloomfield for the celebration of Easter. Band and Miner Kadet parent boosters will meet at 7 p.m. on Feb. 22 in the high school resource room.
Lyons Senior Center breakfast
A biscuit, gravy, egg, sausage and pancake breakfast will be from 7 - 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Lyons Senior Center. Orange juice, coffee and milk will also be served. Donations only. A bake sale will also be held in conjunction with the breakfast. Tickets for your choice of four quilt sets will be on sale for $1 each or six for $5. One will be given away at the April breakfast.
14th annual NWTF Hunting Heritage Banquet
The 14th annual Hunting Heritage Banquet (Greene County Longbeards) will be March 13 at the Linton National Guard Armory. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m.
Linton junior parents to meet
The Linton-Stockton High School junior parents will have a meeting Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the high school media center. All parents and juniors need to attend to get their bingo tickets for upcoming bingo, and also to finalize plans for this event.

Youthfest 2010
Anchored in Faith Ministries will host Youthfest 2010 at 7 p.m. from Feb. 27 - March 2 with special speakers, music and dramas. The church is located on State Road 59 just across from the Ellis Water tower.
Greene County Memory Makers Quilt Guild
The Greene County Memory Makers Quilt Guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 25 at the Bloomfield Public Library. Charlotte Humerickhouse is in charge of the program, and all quilters are welcome.
Wright Township meeting
A building grant meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Feb. 25 at the Wright Township Fire Department. All Wright Township residents are urged to attend this meeting. At 6:30 p.m., the fire department will begin serving free beans and cornbread.
Chili dinner
A chili dinner will be from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 at the Lyons Community Building. Proceeds go to help maintain the building. Raffle tickets for a $500 gift card will be available.
White River Valley board to meet
The White River Valley School Board will meet in regular session at 8 p.m. Thursday in the administrative center. An executive session will precede the open meeting at 6 p.m.

Library event postponed
Due to weather, the Linton Public Library postponed the YA Valentine’s event to Feb. 22 from 4–5:30 p.m. for fifth to 12th grade students. This will now be a Winter Program with games (Winter Pictionary, Bingo and Trivia), crafts (create with beads and more), refreshments and a wild Winter Scavenger Hunt in the stacks. Greene County FSA program
The Greene County Farm Service Agency has scheduled informational meetings concerning the 2010 Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program (DCP), Average Crop Revenue (ACRE) and Supplemental Revenue Assistance (SURE) Programs for Feb. 22. Twin Rivers open house
The area Twin Rivers programs will host an open house for prospective students and parents. The open house is being held to assist students and their parents to decide if they will participate in the program next school year. The open houses for Automotive Service Tech, Building Trades and Health Careers will be today at each of the respective classroom from 4:30 — 6:30 p.m. Visitors may come and go as their time schedule permits. The instructor and some of the current students will be available to answer questions and provide tours. Student applications for the programs are due to their high school counselor by Feb. 26. The Automotive Service Tech open house will be behind Linton-Stockton High School, across from the football field; the Building Trades open house will be at South Main Street, Linton (behind Save-A-Lot); and the Health Careers open house will be at 2170 State Road 54 East, Suburban Plaza, Linton.
Fish fry dinner
The parents of the Shakamak High School class of 2011 will sponsor a fish fry dinner at the Shakamak and Eastern Greene boys basketball game Friday from 4-7 p.m. Proceeds go to the 2010 grand march and post prom. Advance sale tickets are $8 per adult, with children under 12 tickets for $4. Tickets purchased at the door are $8.50 and $4.50. Drinks are included and desserts will be available at extra cost. First Baptist Church in Edwardsport will have a chili supper fundraiser at 5 p.m. on March 13. Chili cook-off at Victory Baptist
Victory Baptist Church in Bloomfield is having a chili cook-off Feb. 28. Cinderella’s Closet
Girls from Greene County and the surrounding area are invited to Cinderella’s Closet at Shakamak High School Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Girls may bring a previously worn prom dress and exchange it for a different one. If you don’t have a dress to exchange you are still invited. Several dresses have been donated. There are sizes 4-26 available and some of the dresses still have the tags on them.

Basket bingo
Linton Gamma Tau Chapter of Tri Kappa will host a basket bingo at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Linton-Stockton High School auditeria. Painting workshop at Bloomfield library
Experienced artist and teacher Wyatt LeGrand will use still-life to teach the fundamentals of painting from observation at the Bloomfield Public Library. Each student needs to bring their own supplies and materials. LeGrand will demonstrate with oil paint, but feel free to bring acrylic paint, watercolor or pastels, along with brushes, canvas, and optional easel. The painting workshop will take place at the Bloomfield Public Library on Feb. 20 from 1-4 p.m. The cost is $30. Relay for Life fundraiser
The Bloomfield Schools Relay for Life team is selling “Relay Feet” before all home boys and girls varsity basketball games. They will be set up at the library entrance and the cost is $1.
Artist lecture, demonstration
Wyatt LeGrand will present an art lecture and demonstration from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Linton Public Library. The event is free and open to the public.
Hospital visitor restrictions lifted
Visitor restrictions that were aimed at preventing the spread of the seasonal and H1N1 flu virus at Greene County General Hospital have been lifted. Visitors are still encouraged to wash hands before and after visiting the hospital. Also, if you are not feeling well hospital administration asks that you not visit the hospital. Restrictions will be put back in place if there is another spike in the number of flu cases.

Recycling Center update
The Greene County Recycling Center will not accept old paint as part of its Household Hazardous Waste program through April. County Solid Waste Management Supervisor Erek Wilson said shutdown during the winter months is necessary because the facility used to store the materials is not heated. All other hazardous household waste products will continue to be accepted. The center accepts motor oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, mercury containing items, fluorescent light tubes, other household chemicals, as well as old computer components.
