If you’re looking for some holiday family fun, then Linton-Stockton Elementary has a treat for you.
The school’s first Family Christmas Walk is slated for Tuesday from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Haseman Woods — which is just north of the playground.
Angela Colliver, L-S Elementary counselor, provided additional details on the outdoor event.
“It is going to be so much fun. It’ll be a wonderful, wonderful thing to bring the kids to,” she said.
Look for Santa and Mrs. Claus, reindeer, free refreshments as well as a live nativity scene during the event.
“We are decorating the cabin … Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there and kids can get their photos taken with them for 50 cents,” she added, noting the money goes to processing fees only.
Hot apple cider and hot cocoa will be served right outside the cabin, she noted.
“We’ll give away candy canes and also homemade cookies. People can listen to Christmas music, see the cabin all decorated and go through the walking trail in woods,” Colliver added.
Saron Church will provide a live nativity scene from 6 -6:45 p.m. and St. Peter Catholic Church will take over between 6:45 - 7:30 p.m.
“We’re also having live reindeer brought in. … They are very tame, kids can pet them … and also learn about the reindeer. It’ll be educational,” she said.
The list of activities also includes a golf cart decorating contest. Everyone is welcome to participate in the fun.
The holiday event is hosted by the school faculty and is open to all, Colliver said.
“We had so much positive feedback from the bully prevention kick-off. There are so many parents who have said they would love to see more family events at the school,” she explained. “So the staff got together and came up with the idea … there is no grant.”
If people have suggestions or would like to help out, please call the school, she said. Businesses can also donate to the event.
“We would welcome carolers or a hand-bell choir or anybody who’s willing to play Christmas music,” Colliver explained. “Many kids have never experienced caroling. It’s just not a tradition anymore.”
Also look for a Secret Santa gift shop in the school’s multi-purpose room.
